The info on this page is a generalisation ... We have to start somewhere

Step 1. Niche, to be understood.

Step 2. Type, to attract.

Step 3. Talk, to transform people and society.

Generation X

  • Gen X has lots of life experience, so we find it easier to 'niche' (step 1) Younger people find it hard to niche because they are still 'exploring'

  • Successful communication today requires starting with digital (step 2) then moving to talking (step 3). Gen X does both. We are the only Analogue AND Digital generation. Meaning we are comfortable talking and typing.

Spiritual

  • Business (for solos) is spiritual because it's not about getting money through persuasion. It's about helping people so they trust you and happily give you money, give you more money and tell others about you.

  • It's about pure altruism. Step 2 - useful, online, ungated content. Then step 3, keep giving with boundaries / payment

Creative

  • Creative solutions are what society, and individuals need to solve problems. And creativity makes us happier, heals us and creates community

Introverts

  • Pre 2000 was the century of loudmouth in-person extroverts. Today relationships start online. Introverts are better at this

BA - Bachelor of Arts Degree

  • This degree trained us to think critically. In an AI world with so much isolation, alienation and misinformation we need critical thinkers to step up, research, analyse and present trustworthy, valuable, unbiased content

coach or freelancer ?

  • Don't worry about titles when you are staring out. People don't think "I need a coach or freelancer." People think "how can I solve a problem."

  • Step 3 - have a short free 'chemistry' phone call for 'fit'. Talking is the hardest part, make it REALLY easy for a stranger to talk to you by eliminating risk for them. Free talk then $50 talk. Now the free talk is attractive, because then next option is $50 not $1000 +

  • Coaches should not push 3/6/12 month packages as it's too 'risky' for clients

  • Australian Gen X freelancers cannot compete with digital youth AND cheaper overseas competitors. Focusing on 'service' could swing-it but it's too risky.

  • Freelancers can sell a $50 talk, to focus on knowledge and care. Personal example - I had 3 websites built, since 2000, all were 'useless'. What I needed was someone to SIT WITH ME and explain how a website with other tools gets me clients

Marketing is dead

Marketing = persuasion. When people smell it they leave

'Content Marketing' means selling without 'selling' because its educational and fun.

It's not really marketing because it's not persuasive. It means consistently inspiring (through education and entertainment) a small target audience with free, helpful, unbiased information, to make them smarter, so they contact you
